MESSAGEmanager uses databases that are designed to meet the needs of most customers. However, in some circumstances, there may be a requirement to increase one of the fields, so that it is large enough to hold data supplied by another application or user.

In the event that MESSAGEmanager attempts to write more data to a field than it can hold, an error message similar to the one below appears in the Windows Application Event log.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MMNTserv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10537
Date: 21/11/2012
Time: 11:11:45
User: N/A
Computer: ********
Failed to add a record to Send DB: FAXSERVER\SQLEXPRESS\FSIDsend\Descriptors\Account: literal value in the command exceeded the range of the type of the associated column

The text fields (nvarchar) in the database can be increased by following the instructions below. NOTE: The maximum recommended size is 255.

WARNING: Back up your data prior to altering the database. The effects of the commands below are immediate, and there is no "undo" function for replacing data if these commands are used incorrectly.

  1. Connect to the database instance using the SQL management tools (installed by default on a MESSAGEmanager server when you use a local SQL Express instance).

  2. Create a new query. Using the above error message as an example, use the following commands (in this case, set the Account field to have a size of 60):

    USE FSIDsend
    ALTER TABLE descriptors
    ALTER COLUMN Account nvarchar(60) NULL
The change is then immediate and complete.

Note: This can also happen on the subject field.
